My name is Miakje Kamstra. Many folks ask me about the origin of my name. It is Dutch. My grandfather immigrated to America from Holland.

I've lived in the Santa Cruz area for over 35 years. I live with my husband, Tom. I have an adult son and several grand-doggies. When I was a kid I lived on a horse ranch in Arizona. We raised and trained Arabian show horses. I am an animal lover!

I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was 6 years old.  In school, my passion was music. I played the flute and piccolo. This influence stayed with me as a teacher, as I taught reading through music and saw the power of integrating the arts throughout content areas.

This will be my 32nd  year in education. I graduated with a B.A. in psychology as well as a teaching credential from the University of California, Santa Cruz. In 2000 I earned National Board Certification. I received my M.A. and Administrative credential in Educational Leadership from San Jose State. Over the years I have held numerous educational positions. Some of these include: teacher (K-5),  literacy specialist, professional developer, Literacy Coordinator for the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, and DIrector of Mentor Development for the New Teacher Center at UCSC. In 2007 I came to Santa Clara Unified as a Principal. In 2016,Team Chameleon opened Central Park Elementary. I love Santa Clara Unified and am thrilled to be working among such a hard-working, dedicated staff on behalf of our students.
