Emilia Jimenez

 

I was born and raised in San Jose, CA in the midst of a large extended family.  I have a B.A. in Cultural & Social Anthropology from Stanford University, as well as continuing education units in Child Development and Early Childhood Education.  

 

While preparing myself to apply for grad programs in either product design or mechanical engineering, I began a series of short term jobs working with school-age children, and to my surprise found that my passion is teaching and working with children.  I began working for S.C.U.S.D.'s Preschool and Extended Day programs as a way to gain more experience before getting my teaching credentials and ended up finding my career. I love the field of early childhood education and out of school programming because of its focus on the "whole" child, where social-emotional and physical development is equally important as cognitive development, and the curriculum is centered around creating intentional, child-centered, positive learning experiences.  I am excited to bring this philosophy to our Extended Day program at Central Park. My goal is to provide opportunities that foster and

expand upon the skills learned during school hours.   

   

During my down time, I enjoy reading, baking, listening to music and going to concerts, road trips, spending time with family and friends, and hiking with my sweet, but stubborn Catahoula Leopard dog, Lexi
