Central Park Families! 

Our multicultural festival will be next Friday, April 6. 6pm - 8pm! We will have food trucks, cultural performances (Indian dancing, ukulele players, Chinese lion dancers, and Folklorico), activities, and music. The festival will be held around the friendship circle at the center of campus. (In the event of rain, we will utilize the covered hallways and the multipurpose room) We are really looking forward to celebrating our diverse community at Central Park! 

 

We would love more parent volunteers!

Dear Central Park PTA Members,

 

The PTA Executive Board Elections are scheduled to be held on Tuesday, April 24th at 7:00pm in the school library.  Please mark your calendars and plan to attend!

 

The 2017-2018 PTA Nominating Committee has validated the following candidates:

 

President: Jennifer Brickman

Vice President: Dasha Estes

Secretary: David Woon

Treasurer: Belem Parra

Financial Secretary: Michelle Tang

Auditor: Mint Pasakdee

Parliamentarian: (to be appointed by the newly elected President per the By-Laws)

 

Submitted candidate statements and photos were emailed directly to parents for the membership's review and consideration.  

 

Any other PTA member wishing to run for a Board position may do so by running off the floor on the night of the elections (April 24th).  Elections will be followed by regular scheduled PTA General Association Business.

 

Additionally--- the PTA is pleased to host a morning social coffee on the morning of Thursday, April 26th at 8:15am.  Please stop by and congratulate our incoming Executive Board!

Central Park 2nd graders competing in the worldwide Wonder League Robotics Competition advanced to the finals! 

Endeavor 8000
 

Out of thousands of teams two Central Park STEAM Robotics Teams made the top 83 in the world. 

 

Team "Endeavor 8000" is composed of two Central Park 2nd graders.

 

Team "SCI-BORG" is composed of two 2nd graders from Ms. Rylan's class and Mrs. Tang's class.

 

All four students achieved this amazing feat programming the Dash and Dot robots.

 

They used the Blockly visual programming language to accomplish 3 mult-part mission challenges.

 

The premise of this year's Wonder League competition is exploring a new planet. Dash and his team have landed on a new planet and they had 9 challenges to complete each having a theme like exploring the Team SCI-BORG
space island, cleaning up the waste and setting up a colony for the aliens they find there.

 

The final mission video needed to have a story to back up their adventures and the premise was that the aliens on the planet were throwing a welcome parade for Dash and the challenge should end with Dash rolling up onto a stage on which he can say a  welcome speech to all the aliens.

 

The team worked almost every weekend from October to February and towards the end a few extra weekdays too. 

 

They also documented their engineering process.

 

Fantasic job team! Good luck in the final round!

Central Park families, 

 

On Friday, April 6, PTA is hosting the Multicultural Festival from 6pm - 8pm. To make this event a success, we need your help! We hope that you will consider providing a booth / activity table representing your culture on Friday night.  Attached you will find a document with more information & a place to sign up. 

We will also have a short informational meeting  at 8:30 am on Wednesday, March 21 in the cafeteria/multipurpose room. We will hold another meeting on Tuesday, March 27 at 6 pm to finalize any logistics.

Central Park PTA’s Multicultural Night - Fri., April 6 (6pm - 8pm)

 

Guidelines/suggestions for booths:

 

Booth Set up: Please provide some information about your culture  - a map, a flag, some photos, and fun facts about a country/countries where this culture is predominantly found. You could use a poster board, or science tri-fold, or be creative.

 

We encourage you to also have some kind of “hands-on” activity for the kids to do while they visit your booth. They could make a craft, play a game, learn a phrase, etc.

 

Food : The committee has contracted food trucks for the event for families to buy dinner & dessert items. They will donate 10% of the proceeds back to the Central Park PTA.

 

If you would like to pass out samples of a cultural food, here are some guidelines to keep in mind:

  • We must make sure food that you purchase or donate is thoroughly cooked at the recommended temperatures (Properly cooked chicken : 165 degrees, pork and beef 145 degrees, unless beef is rare at 130 degrees).  There cannot be cross contamination, and if reheating food, it must be reheated properly to kill bacteria.

  • It may be easiest to share non-perishable items that do not need to be cooked.   

  • If you are providing food that is not in a package,  you will need to wear food grade gloves when handling food and have hand sanitizer (or access to warm water and soap).  It also helps to have a spray sanitizer for the tables and cloths to wipe table down with you. The multicultural committee (supported by PTA) can provide gloves, hand sanitizer, and table cleaning supplies for you, but we need to know in advance.

 

The PTA / Multicultural committee will provide: passports for all the children,  a stamp to use at your booth to mark the children’s passports, a sign with your country/culture name. We can also provide a table from school if you cannot bring one from home.

We will have two informational meetings: Wed. March 21 8:30 am  & Tuesday, March 27 at 6:00 pm in the multipurpose room.  If you are working in a group, you may want to select one member from your booth to attend the event, but it is not mandatory.

Thank you to everyone who came out for the amazing Game Night last Friday night. It was such a pleasure watching kids and adults interacting in such an engaged manner. It was fun to see childhood favorites like BINGO and Monopoly as well as experience new games I had never seen. Thank you to our PTA and in particular to Belem Parra for Coordinating this event for our incredible community. Thank you to Kaari Jacobs for all of her work coordinating food and snacks for multiple events! Our PTA is incredible and is so appreciated. Thank you to our Executive Board for the wonderful enrichment opportunities you have provided the Central Park Community this year.

A True Model of K-12 Unified Collaboration


The collaboration between teachers in the CTE K-12 Garden Connections Cohort allowed for a dynamic garden-to-culinary lesson involving measurement, teamwork, active listening, time management, farm-to-table garden/culinary connections, and FUN! K

 

Kindergartners from Central Park Elementary visited Buchser Middle School’s Culinary Arts class to complete a rigorous culinary arts project together via creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and career exploration.

 

Kinders have been studying parts of plants and visiting their school garden to learn more about how nature connects to the foods we eat.

 

After growing zucchini in the Central Park garden, Ms. Zeitler’s Kindergarten class got to cook with it, utilizing the talents and help of Ms. Schlink’s Culinary Arts middle school experts!
