Spotlight: Ms. Helen Lutke

This spotlight shines on Library Media Assistant Helen Lutke!

An introduction from Ms. Lutke:

I was born in the Bay Area and have lived here for most of my life. I went to UC Davis for my undergraduate and received a BA in Sociology. I am currently attending SJSU for my Masters in Library and Information Science. This will be my first year inside the library and I’m really looking forward to it! It’s no surprise that I love to read but I am also a vintage bicycle enthusiast and a corgi lover.

I have been teaching PE for over 25 years. Iam passionate about providing an environment where students want to participate.  I grew up in Santa Clara, graduated from Chico State, and am now living in Santa Cruz.  I dreamed since I was young

to someday live at the beach.  I am 88 steps to my “homebreak” and living my dream!  I am so grateful to be working at Central Park Elementary!

Spotlight: Sabrina Oyola

This spotlight shines on 3rd Grade teacher Sabrina Oyola!!!
An introduction from Mrs. Oyola:

I grew up in Redwood City, CA. I knew I wanted to become a teacher my sophomore year in high school when I tutored a 1st grader who was behind in reading, and I was able to see the difference I made.

I went to college and graduate school at UCSD (at the same time as Ms. Cary!) and then moved back to the Bay Area to work at Santa Clara Unified School District where I taught Kindergarten and 3rd grade at Braly Elementary for 11 years.

I have one daughter named Eliana who is just turning 3 years old, and one little one. I enjoy riding horses, traveling, and spending time with my family.

I am a life-long learner and explorer and happy to be part of this magnificent journey!"

I’m originally from Los Angeles.  I’m a UCLA graduate with a BA in Sociology.  I continued my education at Cal State LA to start my teaching credentials. I eventually moved up to the Bay Area to be with my husband, Andrew.  I, then, finished my teaching credential program in San Jose University.  I have been teaching since 2005.  I am excited to be on Team Chameleon and look forward to an amazing year of having our minds ignited, hearts expanded and passions inspired.  I enjoy reading, baking, crafting, traveling and spending time with my daughter, Devyn (6 ½ years old) and son, Logan (3 ½ years old).

An introduction from Ms. Cary:

I grew up in Grass Valley where I learned to love of camping, outdoor life, and the arts, but I disliked the cold! Therefore, I attended college at UC San Diego and moved back up to the Bay Area because I missed the trees. Here I have access to the beach and the redwoods, and it’s never miserably cold.

I have taught grades 3 through 8 at two different Project Based Learning schools sharing similar values with Central Park. This will be my 11th year teaching.  In the classroom, I am most excited to share my love of math, technology, and writing.

An introduction from Teacher Beth Stauter:

I grew up in Ohio. After college, I lived in Denmark for ten years. After I moved back to the United States, I taught literature and writing at Foothill College part-time while raising my two daughters. I taught music as a volunteer in their elementary classrooms, became a substitute teacher, and loved teaching so much that I decided to become a full-time elementary teacher. I have been teaching since 2009 in grades 2-8. I’ve taught third grade for the last five years and am looking forward to teaching second grade again. I enjoy reading, writing, making music, and creating things that are useful and beautiful.

I was born and raised in San Jose. When I graduated high school, I decided to go over to the mountains of Santa Cruz, where I attended UC Santa Cruz. My love of the ocean grew and I began to surf everyday. I was studying Science in college and I wanted to become a doctor, but I later realized that teaching was the career for me. Tens years later, I am still loving my job and I am excited to start my new journey teaching at Central Park. I am an explorer of learning and avid traveler. I enjoy reading, music, movies, and traveling the world!

Anna Ng

Today's Spotlight on Team Chameleon shines on Kindergarten Teacher, Mrs. Anna Ng!

AnnaNg_Horizontal.jpg

An introduction from Mrs. Anna Ng:

I was born and raised in Fresno, Ca. I went to UC Davis for college, my major was Community Regional Development with an emphasis in Race and Ethnicity. I was planning to go into social work. When I graduated college, while looking for a position, I ended up being a one on one aide for a child with down syndrome.  While working with her and observing the teachers in her classes, I realized that I wanted to pursue teaching. From there I went and attained my teaching credential from San Jose State.  I have now been a teacher in the district going on 14 years.

I am so excited to be part of Central Park.  I love all subject areas, but my passion is math and science. I am down to earth, I love to try new things, I believe in fostering the joy in all of our kids.

As for my family, I am married to my college sweetheart, Ben.  We have two beautiful daughters who both attend Central Park. When I have free time, I love to spend it with them.  I also love to read, sew, craft, exercise ( kickboxing, running, hiking) and travel.

George Garcia

Today's Team Chameleon Spotlight edition peers inside the P2 window at STEAM/PBL TOSA George Garcia!

Otherwise known as the man with an amazing amount of acronyms in his job title...

  • STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math
  • PBL = Project Based Learning
  • TOSA = Teacher on Special Assignment

An introduction from George Garcia:

I am another Bay area native. Born at the Santa Clara Kaiser and raised in Sunnyvale. This will be my tenth year teaching and third year coaching. I have always been a tech nerd but I learned early in my teaching career that I love using technology in the classroom. Thus encouraging me to pursue and complete a Master's program in Educational Technology.
Personally,  I have an amazing wife and 5 beautiful children. As you can imagine that keeps me pretty busy. When I get a little time to myself I enjoy being outside. I love going to the beach and engaging in any type of water sports. I also love gardening. I could easily spend a whole day in my garden.

Working with Central Park is especially exciting to me because this will be my second time opening a school with this type of emphasis.  About 5 years ago, I was asked to help design and open another school like this in San Jose. I stayed at the school for 4 years.  In that time I was able to experience the incredible power of a school focused on inquiry, curiosity and creativity.  I also learned a lot about what I would do differently if ever given a chance.  Now I find myself at CP with another chance. I am SUPER excited to be here and eager to work with all of you.

Megan Winslow

Today's Team Chameleon spotlight shines on 2nd Grade teacher Megan Winslow!

An introduction from Megan Winslow, 2nd Grade teacher:

I was born and raised in San Jose where I grew up performing in musicals, taking tap dancing lessons and going to the family cabin in the summers.  After majoring in architecture at Cal Poly Pomona, I decided to take after my parents and go into teaching.  I have taught both 2nd and 5th grades for the past 10 years, and I can’t wait to continue teaching at Central Park!  When I get chance, I enjoy reading, traveling, hiking, listening to music and spending time with friends and family.

Emilia Jimenez

Today the Staff Spotlight on Team Chameleon shines at Emilia Jimenez, Extended Day Director!

An introduction from Emilia:

I was born and raised in San Jose, CA in the midst of a large extended family.  I have a B.A. in Cultural & Social Anthropology from Stanford University, as well as continuing education units in Child Development and Early Childhood Education.

While preparing myself to apply for grad programs in either product design or mechanical engineering, I began a series of short term jobs working with school-age children, and to my surprise found that my passion is teaching and working with children.  I began working for S.C.U.S.D.'s Preschool and Extended Day programs as a way to gain more experience before getting my teaching credentials and ended up finding my career.  I love the field of early childhood education and out of school programming because of its focus on the "whole" child, where social-emotional and physical development is equally important as cognitive development, and the curriculum is centered around creating intentional, child-centered, positive learning experiences.  I am excited to bring this philosophy to our Extended Day program at Central Park.  My goal is to provide opportunities that foster and
expand upon the skills learned during school hours.

During my down time, I enjoy reading, baking, listening to music and going to concerts, road trips, spending time with family and friends, and hiking with my sweet, but stubborn Catahoula Leopard dog, Lexi.

Life- and my military family- took me all over the country.  I came to the Bay Area to attend SJSU.  This area provides me energy and a centered feeling.  After many years here, I can't get enough of all it has to offer.

I'm a mellow, go with the flow person who prefers to spend free time with family and friends, exercising, listening to live music, and reading about more ways to share my passion for Science and Design Thinking with students and colleagues.  I can’t wait to get started!
